american beauty..

She played nuns a couple of times. How about Anne Shirley?
That’s true. The other obvious go to actress for a nun character would be Deborah Kerr, but I’d rather use her for a more important character (maybe a Tully or Septa Lemore, who btw might work as Loretta as well). I must say I’m not familiar with Anne Shirley’s filmography at all, but she might work. I’m considering Anita Louise as well.
Loretta Young? Lord knows that was her schtick….or do you want someone blonder and younger?
OMG, that would be hilarious but I’m afraid it would only work if you know Loretta’s background. Plus I was considering casting a young Loretta (around 1928) as another character, given Loretta’s story of giving-birth-to-a-child-conceived-in-problematic-circumstances-and-whose-parentage-was-kept-hidden-until-said-child-was-an-adult. But tragically-died-before-her-time-in-mysterious-circumstances Natalie Wood is also an option for that character.
Since we’re on the subject, I thought of fancasts for Daena and Elaena Targaryen (yes, I have a thing for prioritising very minor characters), but I’m anal and I don’t want to publish only 2/3 of a trio, so do you have any ideas for Rhaena? Who do I cast as a character whose only trait is being a nun?
I have thought of a few options, but none of them convinces me 100% because obviously nobody with Brienne’s physique would get hired in old Hollywood, unfortunately, but at the same time it’s such an important aspect of her character that I can’t really leave it out. Usually I like to keep things secret until I do the fancast post, but in this case I guess I’ll share my options so you guys can give me your opinion and maybe help me decide.
Option 1: Jean Arthur

I’m biased towards this one because Jean is one of my favourite people ever, and she could get across that feeling of awkwardness that Brienne tends to have. Of course, she’s way too pretty, but that’s the case for all of the potential Briennes.
Option 2: Miriam Hopkins

The problem here is that Miriam is very short and petite, and if you’ve seen any of her films you really get that impression.
Option 3: Margaret Sullavan

Ok, I’ll be honest, this is mostly because of that one pool photo.
And then there’s this:

This would solve the height problem since Ingrid was rather tall, but at the same time she’s probably the most conventionally attractive of the bunch. Also I think I might use her for some other character too.
So, what do you think? Would any of these work?
It is no good hammering your sword into a plowshare if you must forge it again on the morrow.
