SO SO SO SO MANY REASONS. This man means so much to me, you have no idea.
- He was a brilliant actor, I mean he stole every film he was in and had such an amazing screen presence.
- One of his earliest film roles was in The Silver Chalice, which he hated so much that he took out an ad in the newspaper apologizing for his performance and asked people not to see it. Later he would screen it at his home and gave his guests wooden spoons and pots and pans to “noisily critique” his performance lmaoooo
- Had a beautiful, faithful, loving relationship with Joanne Woodward, who he was married to for 50 years, until his death.
- Newman was very vocal about his opposition to the Vietnam War and ended up as number 19 on Richard Nixon’s enemies list (which he considered an accomplishment)
- A very vocal supporter of gay rights, civil rights, and women’s rights, was an environmentalist, and was present during the March on Washington.
- Had something of a mid-life crisis and took up racing, was actually really good at it and won three national championships.
- The food company that Paul Newman founded and owned, Newman’s Own, donates all of its profits and royalties to charity.
- I mean if you go to the philanthropy section of his Wikipedia, you can see what a generous man he was. He was absolutely selfless and made it his mission to help others.
- He also had a great sense of humor which showed in a lot of his interviews, but one of my favorite things is when Joanne Woodward won as Oscar for her performance in Three Faces of Eve, she gave him a “Noscar” and they have the most adorable photo of them posing with both awards
- I mean honestly look at this beautiful couple and how much fun they had with each other
- I mean he was just such an incredible talent and had such a big heart and on top of that he was a real life Adonis???? I love Paul Newman so much
